Plans for Luca’s Playful Big Boy Room
After almost 8 years, the time has come where our beloved crib is getting retired. A bittersweet milestone for sure. The closing of this baby chapter of our life has me both sentimental and also equally excited for the stages to come. As we get ready to transition Luca to a toddler bed, we’re giving his room a little refresh from a sweet nursery to a playful toddler room.
His room is awkwardly large. So large in fact, that it served as our guest bedroom and nursery all in one for almost 2 years (take a peek of it here!). With his toddler bed taking up such little space, one of the biggest challenges is figuring out how to make his room still feel cozy. It’s a design dilemma I’m still trying to figure out.
One thing I know for certain is that I want his room to feel playful and serene. We’re big on our kids taking daily “quiet time” in their room even beyond their napping years. It’s the perfect break for them to recharge, play independently and use their creativity. I’m always amazed by what the create/discover/imagine during this daily quiet time. With this in mind, I’m hoping Luca’s room will fuel his imagination. That his time in this space will feel both like a warm hug and an exciting place that brings him joy.
We will be keeping many pieces from his nursery—the wall paper—the art—-the rug—the closet reading nook etc. And adding some playful pops of color through textiles and accessories. A true mix of old and new.
His bed for the next few years will be Isla’s hand-me-down toddler bed (we love this bed!).
