A Sweet & Simple DIY Tassel Storage Bin
The nursery plans for our little girl may still only exist on Pinterest boards and long to-do lists, but last week we made a bit of progress by prepping her closet for her arrival. Let’s be honest, the closet is the only thing that really matters, right?
If you follow along on Instagram, you probably saw the whole process on my Instagram story last weekend. We took our cookie cutter closet and revamped it using a $40 closet kit. It now has more usable storage space, hanging racks, and charm. You can see the step-by-step process and before and after pictures over on Project Nursery.
One of my favorite parts of the closet is the storage—particularly the storage baskets. I searched high and low for baskets and of course everything I liked was $30+/basket (like these metallic beauties). When you multiplied this by 6, it defeated the purpose of a budget closet renovation. So what did I do? I stopped at our local dollar store and hit the jackpot! Simple linen-like storage containers for a dollar each—talk about a steal of a deal! I spiced them up with an easy little white tassel and ta-da! They were just the finishing touch needed for our little girl's closet.
If you are up for a simple DIY project, creating the tassels for the storage baskets is easy. The only supplies you need are a piece of cardboard, scissors and yarn. Here’s how to create your own:
Step 1: Wrap the yarn around the cardboard 60 times.
Step 2: Cut the bottom of the wrapped yarn to let it loose.
Step 3: Using another piece of yarn, double knot in the center of your wrapped pieces to secure them together.
Step 4: Double knot another piece of yarn about ½ an inch down and 1 inch down to create dimension on your tassel.
Step 5: Trim the tassel so all of the bottom edges are even.
Step 6: Hot glue the top string to the inside of the storage container.
