Things We Love: Mohenz's Personalized Dolls
Late last year, I met Artisan, Mirelys Ocasio, through the wonderful world of Instagram. Knowing I was a lover of cute baby gear, she reached out to collaborate on a personalized doll for Brody. Her shop, Sofie's Dolls, creates miniature doppelgängers of your favorite little ones. Mixing her talent for sewing and her background as a graphic designer, Mirelys puts so much love into each of her creations.
I had so much fun working with Mirelys to design the doll that I couldn't wait to share the process. So much detail, thought, and love goes into each one of the dolls she creates--a prime example of what makes handmade shops so special.
After filling out the initial questionnaire, I sent Mirelys a few snapshots of Brody. It sure is tough to keep him still for a picture these days!
Mirelys created a mock-up of the doll using the description and photos in a Vector program to match skin, eye, and hair color. After perfecting the basic elements, she uses Photoshop to add textures and patterns, like the knit texture added to Brody's sweater.
It is the details that set these dolls apart. From replicating his little bow tie, to adding the little dimples to his cheeks, the dolls are each so unique.
After sending over the proof and receiving a big thumbs up from us, Mirelys printed the image onto the doll material.
She cuts the pieces out by hand and sews the dolls up, stuffing them with lots of love.
Mohenz's custom dolls are truly a treasure. I can't imagine a sweeter gift!
