Momma Society: A New Look + A New Mantra

It has been over 2 years since I started Momma Society. I was reminiscing the other day about the beginning. About what sparked my need to connect with other moms, to share my thoughts and feelings on motherhood, to carve out a little spot in the World Wide Web for the modern mom.

The truth? I was lonely. I was nearing the end of my pregnancy with Brody and filled with fear that I did not know others who were expecting or had little ones. I did not know who I would text late at night when I had no idea what I was doing with my child. So one weekend I set out and created a little instagram account, called it Momma Society, and started sharing everything that was going through my mind as I prepped for motherhood.

I had no idea where it would go, but somehow the most incredible moms started conversing—sharing your stories, your struggles, your triumphs. The community of modern moms that I was so desperately searching for started creating itself. The little captions on Instagram soon became too small of a space to share some of my deepest stories, to share the fun parts of motherhood so a blog quickly evolved. A dinky logo I put together in Photoshop became the face of motherhood. My engagement picture headshots turned into an About Page. And the stories and connections through Momma Society grew deeper and deeper.

As the two-year anniversary of Momma Society began to approach, I was ready for a rebrand. For something that really represented who Momma Society was. I started a Pinterest board and began pinning inspiration for the look and feel of Momma Society 2.0.

I ventured out to the studio of one of my favorite headshot photogs, Michelle Herrick, and had her snap a few photos of me—a post pregnancy bod, fighting morning sickness with baby #2 on the way, under the eye wrinkles covered with thick foundation, and the most genuine smile of my life. Because that’s what motherhood had done to me. Far different than the youthful engagement pictures that had served as placeholders for two years. These new headshots were true motherhood in all of its glory.

The new look and feel? Modern, clean, crisp and feminine. All of those things motherhood is in my dreams. Although most mornings you’ll find me in my husband’s shirt rocking a mom bun in a messy home, I want Momma Society to be a sanctuary, a breath of fresh air, and a reminder that motherhood is truly beautiful.

There are a lot of other exciting new things in the works for Momma Society and I cannot wait to share as the year goes on. New series, more ways to connect with each other, and more resources as you venture into your role as a mother. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the new look and feel. Thanks for being a part of this special community. Motherhood is better together.
