Geometric Baby Blocks DIY

When you are 41 weeks pregnant, you suddenly have the energy to take on any project that will keep your mind occupied. If you follow Momma Society on Pinterest, you probably saw these gorgeous baby blocks on our DIY board. They soon became my inspiration for a simple weekend craft. Here are some tips on creating your own baby blocks.

Step 1: Gather the Goods:

Gather 4-5 paint colors that coordinate well together, a roll of Frog Tape (it's worth the price), a few paint brushes, a gold leafing kit and 18 sanded blocks measuring 1.5".

Step 2: Tape

Using the Frog Tape, tape off diagonally on all sides of the block.

Step 3: Paint

Paint 2 coats of paint on each of the exposed wood sections. Be sure to use different colors on each side that touches. Once the paint has dried, peel off the tape.

Step 4: Gild

Using a gold leafing kit , paint the adhesive on one of the exposed wood triangle sections of each block. Let the adhesive sit for a few minutes until it becomes sticky. Next, press against a gold leaf sheet and use dry paintbrush to tack down the gold leaf to the adhesive.

Pretty simple, right? If you are using the gold leaf without applying a sealer to the top of the blocks, they are probably better as a nursery decoration than baby blocks. You can always skip the gold leafing step and simply use the same process with non-toxic paints for a safe set of building blocks for babies.

If you make your own set of baby blocks, be sure to tag us on instagram so we can see. Happy Crafting!
