Momma Society Gift Guides: The Father's Day Edition

Whether they’re biological or chosen, dads hold a special place in our lives. While this year’s festivities might look a little different from what I’d normally plan, I’m still excited to take a day to celebrate JD and everything he has done and continues to do for our family. Aside from gifts, there are plenty of ways to make the dad in your life feel the love.

Father’s Day Traditions

Whether this is the first or the fiftieth Father’s Day, it’s never too late to start a tradition for the day. Some of my favorite low cost options are below:

  • Involve the kiddos with the card // You can include a painted hand print, let the older ones write their own note (or even create their own card), and add their own special touch to the card to make it feel more personal.

  • Have a breakfast picnic // Whether you’re eating on your patio or bringing a blanket to the park, having a meal outside is a great way to let the kids burn off some energy and have less worry about a mess at the table. If cooking isn’t your thing, consider grabbing breakfast takeout to make it as easy as possible.

  • Ask the kids to help plan the day // This doesn’t work as well with younger toddlers, but ask your kiddos how they’d like to celebrate Father’s Day. I find that when my kids have more input in what we’re doing, they’re more excited about it and more eager to help.

  • If you can’t get together, celebrate virtually // If you’re wanting to celebrate grandparents who live out of town or parents that aren’t able to be home, plan a virtual celebration to get everyone together for the day.

My Favorite Finds for Father’s Day 2020

Psst…need even more ideas? Check out my gift round-up from last year below!

It’s a tie…no, it’s a grill set….no, it’s a gift guide to help you shop for the toughest one ever, a dad! You would think that after a lifetime of picking out Father’s Day gifts for my own dad I would have this down to a science, but no such luck. Seriously, what is it about shopping for dad’s that feels like a herculean task? JD and I hardly ever exchange gifts anymore, but there’s no way I could let Father’s Day go by without a little something to celebrate him + all he does for our family.

My team and I have been brainstorming ideas for a few weeks now and we’re really excited about the list we’ve put together. Whether you’re shopping for an outdoorsy dad, a tech dad, or a culinary dad, there’s something great on this list for every dad out there!

How to find a unique Father’s Day gift

A quick search online for “Father’s Day gifts” features a lot of sports memorabilia, at-home brew kits, and at least 10 tools for grilling that you’ve never seen before. While these are still awesome gift ideas for dads, they might not be the right fit for the dad in your life. Add a surprise spin to an otherwise typical gift and it will feel more personalized than a typical gift.

For instance, if you’re shopping for someone who loves to grill, grab a gift card to the local butcher instead of another bottle of seasoning. Or if your dad loves to hit the links, surprise him with a few pairs of fun or silly socks to wear while he golfs (it is scientifically proven that the older you get, the more excited you are when you receive socks as a gift).

You can also gift experiences instead of items for a fun take on a Father’s Day gift. Does your dad love to cook? Sign him up for a cooking class! Is your boyfriend into baseball? Splurge on some lower level seats for an upcoming game! Does he enjoy skincare? Treat him to a session at the spa or barbershop!

Don’t stress and don’t overthink it - it really is the thought that counts.
