5 Baby Feeding Must-Haves

We are starting our third month on feeding Brody solid foods. One thing I am learning is that it is messy -- very messy. From sticky fingers, to crumbs everywhere, the mess is nearly unavoidable. Today I'm rounding up five of my must-haves for making life simpler (and cleaner) when it comes to feeding the little ones.

1. A Bib With A Built In Food Catcher

We have a drawer full of bibs, but the first one we grab is always the silicon bib with the built in food catcher. The little moulded pocket is positioned perfectly for catching the dribbles and pieces that don't quite make it into Brody's mouth. Our favorite bib is his Make My Day Bib -- it's wipeable, keeps its shape, and has a perfectly sized catcher.

2. An Easy To Clean High Chair

You probably remember the high chair guide from a few months back. When it comes to high chairs, wipe-ability is key. Brody has nearly as much fun smearing the foods across the high chair tray as he does eating them. Pick a high chair that has a more rounded shape to prevent food from getting stuck in the cracks and crevices.

3. A Suction Bowl

It's tough to contain the food on Brody's high chair tray. Plates are never an option because his favorite thing to do is flip them over, spilling food everywhere. I recently found out about suction bowls and they are so handy! Whether Brody is sitting on the floor with a snack or in his high chair, I love being able to suction cup the bowl to keep it from being tipped over. We've been using the ZoLi bowl . Boon also makes a similar one with a built in spill catcher.

4. A Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Even after putting all of the gear above into place, it's inevitable that crumbs (or in our case, at least half of the meal) will end up littering the floor around the high chair like confetti. Our cordless Hoover vacuum has quickly become our go-to for clean-up. Being cordless, I can swiftly sweep up the mess without having to worry about pulling off the safety outlet covers or tripping over the cord. We've been using the Hoover Air Cordless Lift Upright vacuum for a few weeks now (they now have an entire line of cordless vacuums!). I love that I can just grab the canister and clean up the mess from the stairs, the kitchen, or wherever. And it has an impressive suction picking up everything from cereal puffs to the tiniest crumbs-a total necessity with a messy new eater around!

5. Food Scissors

Food scissors are one item I never expected to have in my kitchen. Why the need for scissors when I had a drawer full of knives? Or so I thought. With Brody eating more and more of what we are eating at meals, food scissors have been a big help to keep the food in manageable sized pieces. They work particularly well with steamed veggies that can be a bit slimy to cut with a knife. We used the Mixed Pears brand --I love that they have a built in sizing guide.
